What you will learn and do
Playful Construction:
Learning how to construct play equipment for a local kindy
We start with a session learning about loose parts play materials and watching and getting to know kids at a local underfunded kindy. Our goal is to create materials that will help them learn and grow their strength and creativity.
Cahoots is a makersspace for women and gender minorities. There is a full woodworking and welding workshop. You will be trained in basic woodworking, design, and construction skills.
Your challenge is to create the play equipment using at least 90% repurposed materials.
Granny Whale's Regenerative Garden Project
Planting out a flower farm and a food forest nursery with the vision to feed mokopuna 7 generations out.
Modern agriculture leaves the soil worse than it found it using petrochemicals and artificial fertilizers to force food to grow. We will learn an alternative that leaves the soil stronger after growing so that it can feed 7 generations into the future.
What if every school in the region had a thriving food forest planted in it? What if your time in Gateway helped to create that reality?
What if your work helped grow flowers that local school kids to share with residents in a retirement home that didn't get many visitors?
