🌱 We’re Building a Food Forest — Wanna Join the adventure?

  • Community connections
  • Bringing back "granny/grandpa skills"
  • Looking after the next generation

Lets be honest we have gotten too comfortable.  So comfortable it is making us uncomfortable and a bit vulnerable.  The skills our grandparents had that enabled them to feed themselves have not always trickled down to the next generation.  Natural Leaders is trying to change that by building a food forest outdoor laboratory for kids to learn how to look after the planet and grow their ability to feed themselves and their family.

We want to build a syntropic agroforest and create an outdoor living laboratory between Maidstone and Clyma Gardens.  Syntropic forests are food forests that are intentionally planted and are designed to act the way a forest does in creating its own mulch and has multiple productive stories not just a flat section that produces only one crop.

It’s not just about planting kai—it’s about growing something that lasts. Roots that run deep. Connections that matter. A place where young people learn by doing, where community shows up, and Upper Hutt creates something beautiful and living.

Right now, we’re calling in the diggers, the dreamers, the planners, the compost nerds, the seed savers, the aunties with thermoses of tea, and the teens with time to burn. If your hands like soil and your heart likes people, this is for you.

No experience needed. Just a willingness to muck in, learn together, and be part of something meaningful.

We’ll be:
🌿 Supporting the kids to build out the garden they have codesigned with Syntropic Agroforestry experts.
🛠️ Building garden beds and shared spaces
🍓 Planting kai that feeds the community
🌻 Creating a space where kids feel proud to grow

This isn’t a one-off working bee. It’s a crew. A kaupapa. A chance to help build something that will nourish people for years to come.
